Strategic Internet Marketing involves
designing and promoting your website, email newsletters and other forms of
Internet communications to generate leads or sales for your business success.
Strategic Internet Marketing is
probably the fastest-changing form of marketing communications today. There
are now billions of websites all over the world, all competing for customer
traffic, with lots of smart people constantly figuring out ways to give
themselves and their website customers a competitive edge. Here are some
fundamental principles:
-
Design for search engines - To
get your website found on the Internet, it must be designed to appeal to
the search engines like Google, Yahoo, MSN, Lycos and others. The vast
majority of people looking for a product or service provider on the
Internet start with one of the search engines, type in what they are
looking for (called "keywords") and see what pops up. Unless they can't
find what they want on the first page of results, they will never look on
other pages. So this means, unless someone already knows your website
domain name (www.yourdomain.com), the only way they will find your site is
if you get listed on the first, or at least first 2-3 pages, by the search
engines. And that is quite a challenge. For one reason...
-
Search engines see only code -
Search engines do not see your pictures or graphics, which are sometimes
painstakingly created to appeal to human viewers. You'll notice that
TotalSuccessCenter.com does not use a lot of graphics for this reason.
If you'll look up at the top of your browser menu, and click on View, then
select View Source, you will see the HTML code which search engines see.
If you do that on this page, you'll see how soon the term Strategic
Internet Marketing shows up in the code, which is important to the search
engines. And it gets repeated a few times, in a natural manner, not too
often to appear artificial. On other websites, including perhaps yours,
you may have all sorts of code between the start of the page and the
keywords which you want search engines to find.
-
Design each page for one keyword or
phrase - Don't pile all your keywords into one page - that only
confuses the search engines. Instead optimize each individual page for
only one keyword or phrase. This is called Search Engine Optimization (SEO)
and it's really hot right now as the Internet gets loaded with more and
more millions of websites and it gets harder and harder to get high
rankings by the search engines. For example this page is optimized for the
phrase Strategic Internet Marketing. Except for the home page or index,
every page on this site is optimized for the keywords in the page title,
shown at the top of your browser. Search Engine Optimization is one of the
services we offer at our parent company,
Lawrimore Inc. You can also type those three words into a search
engine and learn a lot more about it. But it is not easy and requires a
good bit of time and expertise to be successful.
-
Choose your keywords carefully -
One of the neatest tools on the Internet is Wordtracker.
Wordtracker enables you to see both the demand and supply of any keywords.
The ideal is to find a niche where there is high demand and relatively low
supply of competitors. To help with that, Wordtracker uses a Keyword
Effectiveness Index (KEI). The higher the KEI, the greater the likelihood
that your site can stand out from the competition, assuming you optimize
one or more pages with the high-ranking keywords. For a free trial,

Wordtracker now.
-
Promote your site with the search
engines - There are many site promotion tools, which help you build
pages that are search engine optimized as well as get them listed by the
major engines, but the best in our opinion is Web Position Gold. Web
Position Gold features a Page Builder which will guide you through the
process of building a page which is search engine optimized, a Page Critic
which will evaluate any new or existing page with even more detailed
precision, uploaders to upload your page to the major search engines, and
many other features. It also incorporates a limited version of Wordtracker
so you can do it all within the program. We use Web Position Gold and
recommend it highly.
-
Update your content - For best
results, keep your website updated with new content periodically. Most
search engines, once they have you in their database, will send their
robot or "webbot" to "crawl" your site regularly. Several of them give
higher placements to sites which are updated often.
-
Build customer loyalty - Whether
they buy from you or just visit your site, it's worthwhile to encourage
web visitors to come back frequently. One of the best ways to keep in
touch with them is to offer a free email newsletter, like our Total
Success Secrets. This way you can let them know what's new on your site
with a concise email, as well as increase the likelihood that they will
buy something from your site with return visits. Another way to
build customer loyalty is with an Internet bulletin board or Forum, many
of which are free. You can locate them with any major search engine.
